Site-specific intervention

Living in a space is what makes it real?

Intervention carried out at the Hotel del Sol (San Martín de los Andres). Part of my process of creation is collecting elements left over from construction sites or “deconstruction” sites. In this case, the material collected from the building itself was used in the intervention of the space.

The building used to be emblematic: a 5-star hotel that summoned tourists and gave life to the area all year round. After years of crisis it was abandoned and later vandalized.

The word Help! written on a wall questioned me. It was the beginning of my intervention.

I dug for its heart
I mended the wounds on its walls
I embroidered details

Writing on the work:

Structure raised a long time ago.
Giant observing the mountain.
It is called the old Hotel del Sol. An excuse.

I worked inside the building for a week. It gave me matter.
It let go of secret stories, little by little.
It needed air, sunshine. It needed to share its silence. The stories that protected it from the snow, the rain, the wind, came with me.

Tar paper, texture, color. Catalyst of my own structures. The ones that are part of me and the ones I don’t want in me anymore. The ones starting to show.
